The Deerfield River Fly Fishing Report 12/29/19: Happy Hannukah and Merry Christmas to all ! The fishing has been on the upswing coinciding with the recent warm-up. Rainbows and browns were taking articulated streamers, San Juans, tightline clown eggs, cased caddis, midges, and stoneflies. Fish have been holding in the softer buckets and the pools and tailouts. We have some wonky weather in store but I expect a repeat in high fish activity next time we get stable weather with temps above 35 degrees. Even though the water has been high the fish are still accessible on foot in the above described water- I caught 8 nice bows yesterday walking around in duck boots, never even put on my waders. The Swift River fishing report is good too, lots of wild brookies and some fat rainbows mixed in. Similar flies to the Deerfield but smaller and fished on light tippet. Well ,this is the last report for 2019, hope you and your loved ones have a happy and safe holiday season! Winter fishing is awesome on the Deerfield and the Swift River, call if you want to go double digits and get rid of the cabin fever!
