Winter fly fishing on the Deerfield River is some of the best action of the year for wild browns and holdover and wild rainbows. Water is levels are high in the winter so this is predominantly a drift boat fishery. Double digit action is the norm on my winter floats! Unlike the warm months fishing days are determined by the weather forecast: days over 35 degrees with light winds are the ideal conditions for success- if it’s near freezing and windy I’d pick another day! February and March are red hot months for big browns, with the Hoosic River really turning on as the days get longer. If you see a favorable day and want in give me a shout-I’m available any day the conditions are good.
