The Deerfield River Fly Fishing Report for 8/3/2020: We are Covid free and catching trout like crazy out here! Summer fishing has been nothing short of excellent on our local tailwaters- double digit catches of chunky rainbows, browns and wild brookies is the norm! Just check out my Instagram feed at the bottom of the homepage- it’s full of anglers with happy faces and big fish! Or better yet follow me at jacksonchrisd on Insta! Fish have been coming on dries and subsurface patterns/nymphs- I change tactics as opportunities present themselves! There have been tiny blue winged olives, small sulphurs at dusk and midges during the morning and afternoons. Terrestrials are always a good idea at all times in the summer months too. I’m running small nymphs as the insects tend to be smaller in August except the occassional Iso hatch. Be prepared for anything including tiny tan caddis and flying ants as we approach the end of the month. I do have some openings if you want to get into the lineup- give me a shout. Tight lines!
