The Deerfield River Fishing Report 5/30/2020: The Deerfield has been solid over the last week with the mornings and evenings fishing the best- midday fishing on the hot days has been slow. The dry fly fishing has been excellent on mornings and evenings when the wind isn’t howling. There are tan caddis (18/20), some Henrickson spinners at dusk, Sulfurs and March Browns in the mix- be prepared for any of them to be on the trout’s menu. Indicator fishing and streamers have been working during non hatch hours. Mops, squirmies, Pheasant tails, Prince nymphs and Hares Ears have all had their moments. There have been some big fish rising at times- Sy Balsen caught a 5lb rainbow on a dry last Tuesday- an amazing catch for sure! Congrats on a fish of a lifetime! I’m getting booked up but stay in touch as there are often cancellations- tomorrow is open due to a cancellation if anyone is interested. I expect the excellent fishing to continue- unlike freestone rivers, the Deerfield is a tailwater and fishes well all summer long- give me a shout if you want to get in on some excellent fishing.
