Back in Business! The Deerfield River Fishing Report for 5/25/2020: Today is the official kickoff for guided fishing from the boats in Massachusetts- it’s good to be getting back to normal! As in my previous posts, all trips will follow CDC guidelines in terms of social distancing, mandatory facemask use while together, and other safety measures that will help insure we keep everyone safe and happy! On to the fishing- fishing is good in almost any direction right now. I have noticed that the “spring break” we’ve all experienced has put added fishing pressure on many waters, resulting in picky fish in the areas that are easily accessed by anglers- there’s a message in that statement! That being said, you need to think outside of the box, so to speak , in your fly selection and presentation. On the Deerfield there are still some Hendricksons around but that hatch is just about done, March Browns, Sulfurs, and caddis are next up- be sure to have them in your box and cover all life phases. Streamers and buggers are working and their are shad available in the Connecticut river and it’s tributaries like the Deerfield- shad are amazing gamefish and I’ll put up a simple pattern this week that will help you connect with them. Dates are filling up so give me a shout and I’ll get you in the calendar!
