The Deerfield River Fishing Report for 5/11/2020: Next week we will be back in action !! The Deerfield River Guides Association has been working with the state to develop protocols to safely reopen guiding from the boats and it looks highly likely that these will be adopted and approved allowing us to get back on the water May 18- I’ll keep you posted! Dates are going to fill up quickly as clients that were already in the pipeline will be given first priority to reschedule, please reach out to me if you want to reschedule or get in the lineup. The fishing has been phenomenal over the last week when the wind wasn’t howling- I expect fishing to be lights out for some time. Hendricksons are still hatching, tan caddis and winter stoneflies are buzzing around too. Nymphing is still the go to technique but fish are starting to show more interest in chasing streamers- one week of warm weather should get the water temps into the 50’s- it was 48 degrees on the Deerfield yesterday. Once we get above 52 the trout will be savaging streamers! As a recap of how things will be handled going forward: 1) If you are feeling under the weather or you have someone in your household that is ill or have been in contact with someone who is sick please stay home! 2) I encourage anglers to take separate vehicles when coming out if at all possible. 3) Please bring your own food and beverages until this settles down. 4) Bring your own gear if possible, gear and equipment I provide will be cleaned and disinfected after each trip. 5) Please bring a mask to wear when we are fishing, a Buff facemask is sufficient. I have disposable gloves that will be provided upon request. 6) Safe social distancing will be followed at all times as per state guidelines- I will likely be amending this list once the full protocols are approved and made available from the state. If we follow these guidelines we’ll have a safe and productive time on the water! Being outdoors is good for your immune system and good for your mental health! Looking forward to seeing all of you on the water soon!
