The Deerfield River Fishing Report for 4/20/20: First of all I’d like to wish you all a safe and healthy fishing season in these crazy times. I am still fishing through this Covid outbreak by using common sense protocols- maintain safe distancing, encourage people to use their own equipment if possible, bring your own food and beverages, wear disposable gloves while fishing and wear a mask when riding in a vehicle with another person-ideally riding separate is the way to go. The likelihood of transmission while outdoors is extremely low-getting fresh air, vitamin D, exercise and relaxation is extremely high! And the fishing has been FABULOUS! I expect the Deerfield to get even better the next time we have multiple days of warm weather. The fishing report: the Deerfield has been fishing well with nymphs getting the most attention- Stoneflies, Squirmies, Mops, Flashback PT’s and midges are all working. Streamers presented low and slow are accounting for some fish- I think we are a couple weeks out until the water temps approach the fifties- that’s when the streamer bite will explode as well as the first dry fly action of the season out here. Give me a call if you’re sick of being in lockdown, there’s a safe way to get back on the water and enjoy the fishing season!
