The Deerfield River Fishing Report 10/10/19: Fishing over the last week has been outstanding on the Deerfield. There’s been a reliable afternoon hatch of BWO’s (20-22), October Caddis (14-16), tan caddis (18-20) and the occasional flying ants (18-20) on the warm days. The streamer fishing has been lights out basically until the olives appear- then it’s been an emerger game followed by duns on the surface on 6x. The caddis and the ants can complicate things further but the trout have really been selective on the small olives. So far there’s been no “leafed out days” so fingers crossed the water stays clean over the coming weeks. The stocking trucks were out over the last week so the river is chock full of wild and hatchery fish. The browns are eating voraciously in pre-spawn mode. If you’re on the fence about fishing get off it! Fall fishing is some of the best of the year but you need to take advantage of the conditions and the windows of opportunity- I expect excellent fishing right through Thanksgiving- give me a shout there’s plenty of open dates!IMG_2172
