The Deerfield River Fishing Report and Swift River Fishing Report for 6/29/19: The dry fly fishing is heating up on the Deerfield ! Big attractors, Sulphurs (16), Isonychia (10-12) and tan caddis (18) all have their moments. As a guide there’s nothing more exciting than seeing a trout come through the water column and crush a big attractor! That being said in the heat of the day indicators are still deployed to keep the fun rolling along and streamers too! At low water midges are always in the mix on the upper Deerfield and be sure to have some caddis pupa in a variety of sizes from 14-18 as often times the trout are keying in on the pupa and not the adults.  The Swift River has been decent but not lights out by any means. I just had Marc and Nick Savaria over there and we worked extremely hard to catch 18 trout with some stretches below Cady Lane holding very few trout. I suspect that the spring flooding and high water has a lot to do with that. Midges, San Juans, and mops were getting most of the attention but the brookies will also take small attractor dries on the surface. In other news the Pike fishing is heating up at our local pike hot spots and will be available well into the fall as an option- our pike fishing in Western MA is top notch!! The other big fishing news is the striper fishing is lights out at the Cape, with fish taken up to 40 lbs on the fly! I still have plenty of dates  that are open and the fishing will be solid all summer so give me a shout and I’ll get you in the calendar!
